I might be following work up to the Portland area, and as I look at the different areas realize that it's probably much like San Francisco, block by block you can be in a different neighborhood, but I have no idea where to start.
I was looking for recommendations, what areas of Portland would you recommend living in and why?
Thanks if any of you have any input!

most SF'ers move to the se side of town Hawthorne/belmont district or the NW side of town NW 23rd& Lovejoy, or across the highway right into SF-like home, our very own, the Pearl district. The Pearhl is very SF.
since so many SF'ers have moved to PDx, its becoming more and more like your home town, except wages stagger much behind. SO congrats in getting the best of both worlds: an SF payckeck and and the prospect of living in Pdx ... Good luck.

I wouldn't mind a little advice myself. I live in NW Washington right now (way north NOT Seattle) and my husband and I are thinking about selling our place and moving to Portland ourselves. We probably make LESS now than we would there, that' s some motivation. Any suggestions? I appreciate all advice! :)

dependin on lifestyles and daily routines....
SE is nice and convenient, everything is cheaper then the NW side...
NW is trendy and cramped, you have to pay to park ANYWHERE...
I would say SE, Sellwood or even Beaumont NE. -

Cool, I was looking at the MLS yesterday and that looked more affordable. How's the employment down there? Not so great in Bellingham here. :( The people pouring your coffee have PHD's.

well thats the same here....very bad economy here as well. Its pathetic and of course pure political.
Take OHSU for example...they have convinced PDX to build their tram to get their employees from one building along the river to their other building at the top of the west hills. Who pays for this....no NOT OHSU,,but Portland...an estimated 4 million dollar job has risen to 55million....
Go Portland!
and about the broken schools...well, thats why they have no money....
who can we build a tram for next? How about Enron or PGE? HA!
dont get me wrong, I LOVE Portland...but the politics here are the worse I have EVER seen,,,I have lived in Boston, Dallas, Manchester and now here....this is hands down the most non-sense state....for sure!!
