Art on Alberta--Let Your Voice Be Heard

Just received a mailing that the Annual Meeting for Art on Alberta will be on February 13 at Zaytoon starting at 6:30 p.m. Sam Adams will be the Keynote Speaker. The PSU survey of the Alberta neighborhood will be one of the issues up for discussion. As you are probably aware, that survey showed that the overwhelming majority of residents are FOR closing down parts of Alberta to vehicle traffic during Last Thursday. The city powers seem to care less about what residents want. This is your chance to be heard!

I am sure space will be limited, but you can RSVP to info@artonalberta.org

BTW, Zaytoon is offering a mini appetizer buffet for $5 per person--and they make a killer drink called the Atomic 99.

I might be following work up to the Portland area, and as I look at the different areas realize that it's probably much like San Francisco, block by block you can be in a different neighborhood, but I have no idea where to start.

I was looking for recommendations, what areas of Portland would you recommend living in and why?

Thanks if any of you have any input!

Contact Improv Workshop

with Karl Frost

This is an all levels workshop exploring the kinesthetic possibilities of contact improvisation … an organic mix of technical exploration and open-ended investigation.

Contact Improv is a 35 year old art form investigation the physical and aesthetic possibilities of two or more bodies moving through contact. Contact is the frame of investigation and Improvisation is our response… intellectual, emotional, instinctual.

In the fundamental explorations of contact, we find an endless source of investigation: physical listening, surrendering into and channeling a changing flow of momentum, cultivation of more unmediated presence. As well as broad exercises, we explore specific movement vocabulary, demonstrating principles of anatomy and physics and opening up the physicality of the dance to a wider, more three dimensional range of possibilities. We challenge fear-based responses to find more fluid, 3-dimensional movement with another… through the air and into and out of the floor.

Beyond a technical exercise, we see contact as a space of investigation of self, other, and (inter)connection. Within the physics of the dance, we observe metaphors for emotional dynamics and relationship to life and the world. We see what comes of playing actively with metaphor and see where it is not just metaphor.

Contact is explored as a kind of body work, its practice being one opening and healing the body… physically and emotionally. We grow to more deeply enjoy being in a body.

Together, we find where our curiosities meet.

Body work, Mind work, pleasure, intellect, and a fair bit of sweat.

Logistics:

When: 12-6pm, Saturday and Sunday, December 9-10

Where: Performanceworks Northwest, 4625 SE 67th Ave., Portland, OR

Fees: $95-140 sliding scale (if deposit received by December 1) or $120-170

Registration: paypal $50 to Karlfrost@hotmail.com or contact Goody… 503.459.8898 , stillunfolding@yahoo.com

Dear Friend:

Aren't you ready to let the politicians know that we, the majority of Americans, want an end to the ongoing war in Iraq? Then please join me, along with Yoko Ono, Susan Sarandon, Alice Walker, Dolores Huerta, Cornell West, my friends at CODEPINK, and MANY MORE in signing Give Peace a Vote (www.givepeaceavote.org).

This is a Voters Pledge that we will only vote for candidates who publicly call for a speedy withdrawal from Iraq and will keep us from engaging in future unjustified wars. Let's send a clear message this November and beyond, that we believe in international law and diplomacy over aggression.

Please sign the Voters Pledge and ask at least 10 of your friends to sign as well. With millions of peace voters, we can elect leaders who will Give Peace a Chance. That's all we are saying.

Simply copy and paste this url in the address bar of your web browser to sign up NOW: www.democracyinaction.org/dia/o...on.jsp

Thank you for taking action!

PDX Pro Choice Party tonight....Did you see us in the Portland Mercury?

Did you see we made the Portland Mercury? I’ve been working on this fundraiser with some great volunteers the last couple months. The Portland Mercury thinks you should spend your Friday night with us, and so do I. So do it, come out and spend some time with us and support Choice

PRO-CHOICE PARTY! (Portland Mercury page 17)
Being pro-choice in 2006—as states like South Dakota outlaw abortion and President Bush appoints pro-life Supreme Court Justices—isn't all doom and gloom. Tonight the folks at NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon are putting on their third annual "Debutante Ball," a tongue-in-cheek send up of old-fashioned Southern balls, with a feminist, pro-choice twist! AJ Dante's, 1 SW 3rd, 8 pm, $15
www.portlandmercury.com/portla...usyWeek

PS: If you come out and we haven’t met yet be sure to introduce yourself. I’ll be wearing a western style brown shirt with an orange peace patch that I sowed on myself…easy to spot.

I'm on a frantic search for a set of matryoshka(russian nesting dolls) depicting the leaders of Russia. It's a popular set, but I don't have time to order it off the internet by Christmas!!

Does anyone know of any import/russian/collectible stores between Tacoma and Eugene that might have one of these? I'm desperate!

MS Walk, April 17, 2004

Hello. I am getting together a team to walk for MS in Oregon, April 17, 2004 at 10AM. Would you like to participate with me and a few of my rambunctious friends? We call ourselves the "Thursties", cause we drink a lot of water, you know. If you cant join us, maybe you would like to participate by pledging me or a member of my team, or just by sending in a donation to this very worthy cause. If you are interested or want more information, just give me a hollar! Thanks so much.

I drive up Hwy 26 about once a month. I drove up there today and just outside of Sandy all of a sudden Mt Hood came into view in all her glory. I realized the last few months every visit she was hidden behind clouds. What did you do in the glorious sun this week that was special?

hello fellow tribe members ..Im new to this tribe and thought this would be a perfect place to ask my question.

Our office has 3 IMB electric typewriters that we will be replacing. We would like to donate them to a children's group, or church group that could use them, instead of having to send them to scrap recycling.

If anyone has a need for fairly decent, and functioning typewriters, please let me know. They are all in good working condition, but some of the letters are shadowed, or the middle line is missing from "H". Things like that.

Best,
Kristen
